School of Law, University of Glasgow

The study of law in Glasgow has a long and illustrious history. Distinguished alumni include eminent judges, politicians and scholars, as well as many others. Today, we remain one of Scotland's leading law schools, with just over 1,000 students and over 40 academic staff. In 2013 we will be be celebrating the tercentenary of our Regius Chair in Law. Events will take place throughout the year starting with the inaugural lecture of our new Regius Professor, James Chalmers. The programme of events for our celebrations can be found on the forthcoming events pages.

The School provides a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment for students, staff and academic visitors alike. The School of Law has received excellent ratings for its research in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 (RAE): 90% of our research output has been rated as being of international quality in terms of originality, significance and rigour; 15% of our output has been rated as four star .Fully 55% of our output has been rated as being either three star (internationally excellent) or four star.

These results demonstrate a growing research culture and the success of our inclusive strategy, confirming Glasgow’s position as one of the leading law schools in Scotland and the UK. We offer a very varied teaching programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and have adopted a number of innovative approaches to teaching.
